South FL Season | 2017 Event Trends

Season here in South Florida is in full swing. The weather this time of year is typically 70 to 85 with mostly sunny skies, so it’s no wonder that hotel occupancy is at it’s peaks and our snowbirds are all in town. It keeps those of us in the event industry stuck at our desks until late at night, and jumping from one client event to another all weekend long.

The events that are hosted here in February alone in Miami/Broward/Palm Beach tri-county area include things like the South Beach Wine and Food Festival, the Miami Marathon, corporate retreats, the Heart Ball, the Miami Boat Show, and many more!

With so many events here, we see a ton of new ideas and creativity around this time of the year. So what are some of the new trends we’re seeing this year? Read below to hear from our board on their top five favorite trends:

  • “The year has seen new trends in Comedic Musical talents with a surprise element. Acts such as The Three Waiters, Hypnotwist and the likes are creating smiles and exciting corporate clientele throughout the nation.” - Nestor Diaz, Mile Sipe Entertainment
  • “Tablescaping is going next level with layers and hardscaping pieces. We’ve seen everything over the last couple of years from palm leaf placemats to uncooked pasta filling a table’s votives to fur throws on each chair. Even our corporate clients are willing to spend money on these items lately. I love when I see texture, pattern and fun unique details all incorporated at once (think a fig on top of each menu to anchor it). Try using a beautiful white fur throw on each chair combined with a patterned linen with specialty metallic chargers and colored wine glasses with texture. Top it off with lots of votives and small floral arrangements.” - Erin Branham, A2 Events
  • “We’ve seen a lot of the mix and match chair trend. To achieve this look choose multiple chair types at each table for an eclectic, beautiful and approachable look.” - Kate Gilbertson, Koncept Events
  • “Ball pits are all the rage! No longer just for kids, these fun activities recently became available at museums, and we’re beginning to use them in our lounge areas and sponsor activations at events. We love when all the balls are one color for a childlike zen moment or when the balls have LED color change lights in them.” - Francesca Radabaugh, Paragon Events
  • “Technology shadows all by taking drones to flight! From indoor Drone aerial recordings to LED Drone demonstrations and reveals; clients have their sights set high with these visually stimulating productions.” - Nestor Diaz, Mile Sipe Entertainment.

After Lady Gaga’s incredible halftime show, we’re totally obsessed with drones! (And what a way to use one of 2016 top event trends of incorporating your sponsors into the content).

Using the Pantone Color of the Year in Your Next Event

Welcome to 2017!

After a 2016 that was filled with shocks, surprises, and memorable moments, lots of us were ready for you, 2017.

It’s a new year, ripe with possibilities, fresh for the taking, and bursting into new life…It’s no wonder that Pantone chose the color of the year to be greenery. We all needed a reminder of fresh possibilities, back to nature moments and the comfort of the outdoors.

Here are some ideas for incorporating the color Greenery into your next event:

  1. Bring the outdoors in, literally. From palm leaf placemats, to greenery napkin rings, to hedge walls, to large tropical plant rentals, you can make your event simply florabundant! (Florabundant definition: refers to the sumptuous beauty of rich floral hues). We predict more of this in all our events this year.
  2. In your event logos. Use Greenery as one of the logo colors to get started on the right foot. Then customize decor to coordinate!
  3. Use the color on custom bars, or painted adirondack chairs to really give things that fresh feel. Chrome Event Rentals as well as other vendors here locally can customize bars and chairs to your liking.
  4. Greenery Eggs & Ham, anyone? Okay, that might be a stretch, but you see where we’re going here right? Why not incorporate greener food items this year? We prefer fresh ingredients to the children’s food-color version, but hey, sometimes a little food coloring can really create a memorable moment!
  5. Event lighting that glows greenery. We love this year’s shade, and your attendees will too if you incorporate some uplights and moving gobos in the signature shade. We suggest adding some amber to accent it and add depth.
  6. Plan your next Pre-Function or Event to a neighborhood Botanical Garden for an exotic mixture of greenery, nature and serenity.
  7. Greener Thinking = Sustainability: Rethink, Reuse, Recycle for a smaller waste footprint, a healthier Ozone, Environment and Earth.
  8. Use fresh from the garden garnishes for your cocktails. Basil, oregano, rosemary, pineapple leaves, edible flowers and more add color and will enhance the aroma and flavor or your cocktail.

Happy New Year!
